You use continuous lighting as opposed to flash. Can you elaborate on that process? What do you use for lighting and how do you set it up? Also, congrats on finishing the year!

Yea totally. Essentially I light a room with normal lighting stuff you would use to decorate your home.

My favorite lighting tool is paper lantern China balls; the circular orbs with a paper covering that you put a light bulb inside. Gives off a super nice soft lighting.

Other than that I usually carry 200 and 300 watt bulbs with me when we shoot and I talk the bulbs out of all the lamps where we are shooting and put my brighter bulbs in. That lets me use the existing lighting elements as well.

All that said, for the 365 I didn’t do any specific lighting other than the occasional flash, or if it’s a shot from a shoot that I lit for.

Oh yeah and a bounce. Shooting in windows is great but you need something the bounce the light onto the models face if they are back lit.

That answer your question?

Do your friends a family know about your blog?

Yup. My Mom likes to joke “you clearly found a great way to enjoy life.” Both of my parents have some of my work hanging up in their houses as does Julie’s family.

I decided when I started I wanted everything to be in my name because for me to hide it meant I was ashamed of it and Im fortunate enough to have friends and family that are all supportive enough I didn’t even have to think about hiding it.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think people shouldn’t use a different name for internet identities, it just wasn’t for me.

Hi, I saw in one of your photographs from a while back the Julie had a Sony a7 and I was thinking about getting one so I wondered what she/you thought of it and if there were any other cameras you would recommend that are sort of in the sub $1000 price range. I love your photographs by the way! I check everyday for a new one!

Yeah I love my A7. I don’t generally enjoy shooting digital, but I really like the A7 because I can put my Leica lenses on it, or really whatever weird old funky lenses I find at swap-meets; and the focus assist where it outlines whats in focus in a color makes shooting manual lenses on a digital camera super easy.

I don’t know digital well enough to point you to other digital cameras I recommend, but dpreview.com is the site I use to look at all the time when I was researching digital cameras.
