Yes, thought somewhat unintentionally. hahaha. Its our patio so typically its the go to set for impromptu shoots, though we love shooting out there so likely we’ll end up using it too much. Throughout the summer it may end up even becoming a recurring location with modifications to become a series. Only time will tell!

Derek, I see you have a Tumblr account, a blog, a web site, Twitter account… You take (awesome!) pictures and I suppose you have a personal live too! So, do you update and manager all of these websites on your own? Doesn’t that get a bit much at times? Also, between your Tumbr site and your website, which of those gets more attention from the audience? What would you recommend for a photographer when it comes to web-presents?
Hello!
I do manage and update them all myself. I had my site built by a good friend of mine but then I maintain it (clearly not as often as I should, a project for this weekend in fact). It is a lot of work to hit all the pertinent social networks, but everyone has their own system of how they do it and once you get into a stride with it it gets easier.
If you’re starting out Id start with tumblr. The community nature of tumblr helps you network and get your work out there. I can 100% say I got back into photography because of tumblr and the community I found here. In my opinion a site is totally just to legitimize yourself for professional contacts.
Id recommend starting a tumblr, and posting just your own work. It gets confusing, sometimes, when you’re starting if you’re reblogging 20 shots a day and posting 1. Network with other photographers and models through tumblr, flickr, instagram and build you connections that way. That is how I did it.
Best of luck!
Derek
You do great work! :) but Do you not take pictures of females of other races?
Thank you so much. I would love to shoot any race. I’ve said before I like to shoot beautiful women of all shapes, sizes and color. I’ve in fact reached out to several girls of other races and the shoots just haven’t come to fruition yet. If you are such a lovely lady email me derek@derek-woods.com.

Have you ever had color negative film cross processed? I know it works for slides…
I haven’t actually. Your question spurred me onto do a tiny bit of research and immediately found this insanely useful site:
Enjoy.
Dude your lady is a fox. I bet you two have wild sex.
Hahahha. You’re damn right she is, and a gentlemen never tells!
You should see about getting Mallory to do some more shoots, she has such a raw sex appeal. Also, its nice to see such a talented artist featured in others work. I can almost imagine your photos as one of her figure studies. Maybe even a solo shoot, or with another girl besides Julie to see how it affects her presence in photos. Regardless great work man, keep it up.
Hahaha. Funny you should say that we have plans to shoot with Mallory again soon. It will be a solo shoot. We have lots of fun working with Mallory because shes is awesome and just a good friend of ours.
(ps. Yo Mallory, the internet has a crush on you!!!)
First off let me say, your photography has boosted my self esteem times a million. I’ve recently started on the road to recovery from an eating disorder and seeing all of these beautiful, confident women in these photos have encouraged me to be just as confident with myself as they are with themselves so thank you for what you do. Secondly, I’m almost positive there hasn’t been but has there ever been any jealousy/concern from Julie with your area of photography? Xx
Honestly this is so flattering and means the world to me. There is NOTHING more beautiful in this world then a confident women; regardless of shape, size, color or creed. Im super happy for you!!
There hasn’t been any jealousy but we do always talk about every shoot and like to meet the models before hand when we can to get to know one another before shooting. Julie trusts me and my professionalism so its never been a concern at all; but that comes with always being very open and having constant communication. Being a nude photographer isn’t easy on a relationship, but it forces you to be really good at communicating and having 100% trust. I can say that having those two things has made our relationship the best relationship Ive ever had.
The 750 has a top light right? So you can scan your Sprocket Rockets… since that’s where I’m stuck, I’ve got all the things, except for the scanner with the light in the hood.
Yes indeed. It does have the top light for negative scanning. Its wide enough to scan 2 strips of Sprocket Rocket at a time if you have 2 DigitaLizas.
Leica M6 or Mamiya 7ii?
Ive never tried a 7ii, sorry cant say.
Do you scan your negatives yourself? If so what machine do you use/recommend?
I scan all my Polaroids, Instax and sprocket rocket shots. I use an Epson 750. For standard 35mm shots, EOS-3, Leica M6, I just get those scanned at the lab.
Ive used a few Epson scanners and love the 750 the most.
