PCH. 2015. Polaroid 1893.

Its rare that I shoot landscapres, or really things other than people with instant film but a while back I decided to start slowly collecting images into a project called “Low-Fi Landscapes.” Those following particularly closely may have noticed the hashtag now and then, but Ill be posting them a bit more often here and there as they are starting to grow on me.

Hey! Just wondering if you have any suggestions for a multi camera case? I currently have a mini diana, polaroid 300, fujifilm 210, and a lomo’instant. Looking to get either a Polaroid Spectra or Polaroid 600 (haven’t decided yet) haha.

Haha. This is virtually a impossible question to answer. I shoot with a doctors case during photo shoots. 

The reason I use that is so that I can see everything I need and have quick access to it, but if I need to close up quick to move, I can. 

For bags shooting around town, I typically use a camera insert (size small) in my chrome bag. It has room for more stuff. you can get a larger camera insert to fit in that bag as well. 

Currently my buddy chrisglass introduced me to the Incase sling, and I like that a lot for carrying just a few things and exploring. 

Really you could fit most of what you listed in any of those bags. Honestly though, bags are one of those things that are very personal to taste. I shop them obsessively and dislike almost all of them. These are the few that I do like, but they may not work for you. I suggest, buy one, try it, decide what you like and don’t like, then return it and use the pros and cons to find a better one.

Hi Derek! I’m a big fan of your photography work, have been for several years now! I was curious if you could tell me where you get your prints done? I’m looking for a good place to go through and haven’t had a ton of luck. Thanks and keep up the amazing work! I’m stoked for what you and Julie have planned for shoots this year.

White House Custom Color for my prints. They are great. I have them shipped to myself to sign and then I mail them out myself. But if you’re not signing you can have it shipped directly to the customer. 

Would really love to know when you go back to Yosemite to go camping so I can plan a trip with my lady at the same time. We both love your work and would like to tell you in person. Keep up the awesome relationship as you are a great model to follow. Thank you.

I would love to know too! For my day job I just took over the Portland arm of our company, along with running the LA arm, so Ill be in Portland a lot more, and probably camping up there some. But if Yosemite hits back in the radar it could be fun to organize a internet photography meet up. I like that idea. 

How do you handle showing off Julie? I mean seriously, you hit the 10/10 with her. I wish my gf was that comfortable with me taking pics and showing them to express my love and pride. Your a star in the sky I wish to keep following, and hopefully achieve one day. Thanks for the inspiration. The fact you follow and do your art out of love and not greed is amazing. Thank you for always sharing.

Hello! Well I wouldn’t say that showing off Julie isn’t my goal. I LOVE photographing her and then sharing my photos. Its more of a two step processes. Also, I’ve  had lots of guys ask that question from an insecurity perspective, like “aren’t you worried with showing off your lady someone is going to swoop in!?!” Honestly, no. Im too old and been through too many relationships ruined by insecurity and I don’t have time for it; on either end. I love her and am so proud of her that I would be dishonest to myself not to share images of her, regardless of who sees them; and really I would happy go toe to toe with anyone that has the foolish idea they could steal a look from my lady. Its just not gonna happen, so its not worth entertaining the thought. Once you let go of making decisions out of insecurity your light get much lighter, brighter and more fun. 

As for Julie herself, I got extremely lucky to find such an amazing woman that not only supports me shooting naked ladies, but helps out on the shoots, inspires me, and then lets me photographer her and share the photos. 10/10 doesn’t even cut it. She’s double extra credit with 15 gold stars 15/10!! 

I honestly don’t think it was something we every really considered; posting intimate photos. Once I started shooting photography again it was pretty clear that dating me meant sharing photos of our life with the world, and I don’t think Julie ever minded that. I think she knows that me photographing her is my way of worshiping her and its something that brings a lot of joy to our relationship and she loves that.
