Hey man, huge thanks for introducing me to Orange is the New Black, I can’t stop watching. Also love the photos! East coast love flowin’ your way
My pleasure! Its so fucking good. We may watch it again all the way through. And thank you so much.
I like you photography. Has a very cool feel to it.
Do you ever get a boner while shooting these lovely ladies?
Ive actually been asked this on my other tumblr (derekwoods.tumblr.com) before and I dont think I could answer better now than I did then so here you go:
Anonymous asked: you must get so sexually frustrated when shooting
LOL. This is not an uncommon assumption, and although my answer likely applies to most other photographer, I dare not speak for them all.
When you are photographing a model there is energy there, but its creative energy; not erotic energy. You are creating something with someone that happens to be nude, you’re not engaging them in an erotica way and happen to have a camera. At least thats my opinion anyway. So, no, I dont get sexually frustrated or even aroused when I shoot; I get creatively inspired.

A BTS from our shoot with @brewinsuicide shot by @juiceyj. I always end up giving direction by demonstration; Julie’s got quite the collection of photos of me in compromising positions.

Sierra McKenzie: how to support your favorite freelance models
A great quick little read about supporting photographers and therefore models to keep the freelance art world wheels a moving.
I’ve had a few people ask me what they could do to help support freelance models so here’s a brief little write up!
1. support photographers! I honestly think this is the most important. buy prints, go to gallery openings, follow photographers. photographers hire models and the more they can…

How do you prep before shooting someone? Do you ever get nervous?
Unless its like a impromptu shoot I prep by going over the looks that Julie designed, going over my plan for the lighting, background and space.
I kind of then spend the time loading all my cameras to get my thoughts in a row.
However, once I start shooting I have those guides in mind but really hand it all over the model, and what happens live in the moment. I believe that if you try to stick to a structure 100%, at least for me, you end up missing the magic of the moment.
I never get nervous anymore but I use to. Now I just enjoy it so much Im like a kid in a candy store running around switching cameras like mad.
