So much of Japan is a challenge to photographic; it’s so beautiful you feel obligated to struggle to do it justice. The gates at Fushimi-Inari Temple are a prime example. Amazing in their simplicity but overwhelming in the quantity, they are a photographic dream. Beautifully lined up objects with high contrast colors leading to a vanishing point; how can you ask for more? But when you’re walking through them they feel like so much more. There is an intangible, un-photographable magic that needs to be experienced to understand. If you’re life ever permits, I highly recommend visiting.
